JSW Landscaping & Surfacing

Driveways & surfacing in Somerset

Hard-wearing, good-looking driveways built on properly prepared foundations — new installations, extensions and resurfacing.

Reclaimed Yorkstone driveway with oak posts and cobble edging

A driveway is only as good as what lies underneath it. Every JSW driveway starts with proper excavation, a compacted sub-base laid in layers and edging to hold everything in place, so the surface stays level and sound for years.

We install block paving, from regular block paviours and country cobbles to granite setts, where patterns, borders and colour changes can add real kerb appeal. Tarmac is long-lasting, durable and low maintenance, and we also offer a restoring product that can revive old, discoloured tarmac. Resin bound surfaces, pattern imprinted concrete, natural stone and stabilised gravel are also available.

Drainage is designed in from the start, with ACO channels, gullies and soakaways where needed, and we can alter levels to remove awkward steps at the front door or pavement.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?

In England, if you are paving more than five square metres of a front garden, planning permission is not usually needed as long as the surface is permeable or the water drains to a lawn, border or soakaway within your property. We will explain the options for your driveway when we quote.

Which driveway surface is lowest maintenance?

Tarmac and resin bound surfaces are both very low maintenance. Block paving needs occasional re-sanding and weed control but can be lifted and relaid if needed. We will talk you through the pros and cons of each for your property.

Can you extend my existing driveway?

Yes. We regularly extend driveways for extra parking, either matching the existing surface or overlaying the whole area so old and new blend together.

Can you sort out a dropped kerb?

We can build your driveway ready for a dropped kerb and have installed drop kerbs as part of driveway projects. Dropped kerbs on the public highway need council approval first, so check with your local authority before work starts.
